With my website i decided to go with a stylish design that is prominent but still keeps class and an aesthetic throughout. I tried out a variety of different website builder sites (Squarespace, Wix, GoDaddy, Weebly) However, after careful consideration and what worked best for me, i stuck with Wix. This was mainly due to cost of the website, ease of use and also the options that were available to me to not only improve the look of my website but also functionality and also collating a domain name.
But, with all the payment plans available Wix doesn't force you to pay for your website until you are satisfied and want to have a professional look for everybody to see. However, you can post your website without paying but Wix put a couple of ad banners in places. In my opinion i felt that i'm not ready to promote myself on a website i have payed for because i haven't gained enough worthy experience to want to pay for the site. So for now i have the ads on the site but would obviously want to get rid of them and proceed to reap the total benefits that Wix can offer.
I made sure that my website contained a significant amount of images to display but i didn't want to add everything so that the links to my socials had more work to keep my viewers interested in what i have to offer. I made sure that with the design of my site the colour pallet was plain but stylish at the same time. I feel that too many bright colours did not set the mood i had intended around my work so having it plain not only fits my design taste, it also makes sure that the colour doesn't take anything away from my images by overpowering them. I took a lot of inspiration from a collection of websites that led me to this decision, which included Megan Doherty who's website is very simplistic with one image filling the homepage and little to no colour throughout the site.
As you can see from the image on the left this is the homepage you are greeted with upon clicking on Megan's site. It features only one image and a navigation bar at the top right hand corner to allow you to find your way around her site.
However, by being plain with not too much overloading the page it makes it visually appealing and straight forward to find all the relevant information. For my own website i wanted to use this simplistic approach by having an image of myself at the beginning to introduce myself from the get go, to then discover my work the further you explore the site.
If i had to change one thing about my site though is that i would move the work to the beginning to get the viewers hooked. But, i felt that for what i was trying to create, it was better to have the work splitting my picture and introduction in order to give it a better layout and flow as you navigate the site. Down below is some screen grabs showing how i incorporated an easy navigation system using a tool bar at the top left and also links to all my socials with an icon so that there is no confusion for the user but also fits in well with the design layout.
The social links i used are Instagram and Pinterest which i find to be the easiest and my favourites to use when it comes to sharing my work online. What becomes really helpful is that i have been able to link all my socials together using Linktree which is a feature that you can add to your profile and add links to other sites to make it very easy to navigate your site.
As you can see above upon clicking the link it will take you to a homepage that will include all my relevant links in order for anyone to see more of my content on other pages and platforms. It is very useful as i can also track how many people click each link and therefore know what i need to promote more in order to drive web traffic to the specific page.
In conclusion i feel as though my site has a substantial amount of relevant information while still providing a certain style and functionality that makes it easy to use and visually appealing. However, the website will still be improved once i gain more relevant experience and information to add to the site further down the line. But, in order to promote myself and get my name out there i feel as though i have managed to create an excellent working site that i am proud of. Down below is the link to my website.
